Police Report March 2024
A Statement by Sean Underwood, Police Sergeant 3851

Report on a presentation given by Police Officer Sergeant Underwood to the March BGTA committee meeting:

Sargeant Underwood said that the area that included our estate was the Old City area - this included Castle Park and Corn Street and crime statistics were reported across that area.

Crime statistics for the year were shown on his slides.

He said that the number of incidents had not declined but the number of serious incidents had reduced.

He then outlined the current issues:

- Vehicles using the Corn Street pedestrianised area - several accidents involving the injury of pedestrians has occurred by vehicles unlawfully using the street.

- Street community using the communal areas of offices and flats for their convenience - this was causing a demand on police resources - CPW - community protecting warning notices can be given at first and if behaviour persists then a CPN - community protection Notice can be given issued  for criminal behaviour then the CBO - Criminal Behaviour Order can be used which is the most severe order.

- Street dealing of controlled substances around Guinea Street - high visibility policing has been used and this has resulted in clearing this activity from this area.

- Antisocial Behaviour (ASB) and drug dealing and use related ASB, Castle Park - this is continuing to be an issue and again high visibility policing has been used to target these issues.

- High-visibility patrols of Redcliffe Parade Car Park were carried out following reports of drug use in the evenings. There appears to be very little drug paraphernalia left, however, as the weather gets warmer they will ensure patrols continue.

- There is a continued engagement with the asylum hotel on Redcliffe Hill. (The Mercure) There have been no issues to report from them, the hotel guests were spoken to about their level of noise when entering and exiting the front entrance and asked to keep noise to a minimum in the rear car park. They believe the people living at the hotel appear to be keeping the noise down as no further reports have been received.

- The rough sleeper in The General was approached and given advice on the location and variety of help centres he could attend to help him.

- Bristol had exceptionally good resources for the homeless and for rough sleepers and these are so good they are attracting the homeless to Bristol from a wide surrounding area.

- He reported also that the young person responsible for leading antisocial behaviour on our estate last year was currently in a young offender's prison but was due to come out later this year.  However, he currently has a CBO on him and so if he returns to his old behaviours then can be dealt with promptly.

Sargeant Underwood expressed the importance of reporting every single incident to the police, however small, using the form shown in his presentation as, whilst this would make crime statistics appear higher, it would help him to get additional resources and additional officers to police the area and this would be good for everyone.
